I took these photos of a Golden orb web spider (Nephila edulis) in the rose bushes in my front yard on my return from my Mount Tomah trip on 28th February.
I have no idea why this creature is designated as “edible” (edulis = edible), and neither does Wikipedia. The wiki does mention that other members of this species are eaten in New Guinea. Hmm.
The light was going, the day was overcast, and the wind was blowing — poor conditions for hand-held available-light photography.
